2018 is starting on a terrible note for some communities in Benue State and they are asking the entire world to come to their aid.

Families have again been thrown into mourning, after suspected herdsmen attacked Tombu village in Logo Local Government Area.

At least 11 persons were killed in the fresh attack.

This is coming days after at least two persons were killed by arms-carrying herdsmen in the Guma Local Government Area.

It has been a week of renewed attack and that had led to an emergency meeting between the state government and joint socio-cultural groups.

After the meeting held on Saturday, Governor Samuel Ortom, confirmed the latest killings.

"Two days back, four persons were killed in Guma Local Government, and this has continued,” he was quoted as saying by Channels Television.

The renewed attacks had resulted in heavy presence of the police and the military in the state, which the state governor had commended.

At least 40,000 people have been displaced for fear of attacks.

"We appreciate the fact that now we have the massive presence of the police, we have an additional deployment of the military.

"They are on ground and deployment is being done. We are also providing logistics to ensure that these do not continue. As at now, over 40,000 people have been displaced and we are still counting,” Governor Ortom further said.

The police have not confirmed the attack.

There have been insinuations that the attacks were communal clashes, but the Socio-cultural groups in Benue are asking the police to visit Tombu village to understand the nature of the attack.
