Four men suspected to be child traffickers have been arrested by troops of the Nigerian Army in Yobe State.  

They were with 19 under aged children and were conveying them from Potiskum to Garin Tuwo, Bungai in Bungai and Buni Yadi in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe and Galarabala in Biu Local Government Area of Borno.

Spokesman for the army, Brigadier-General Sani Usman, said: “The suspected traffickers and their victims have been moved to the Brigade Headquarters for transfer to National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons”.

Since Boko Haram devastated the northeast region in their push for an Islamic State and an end to Western education in the region, child trafficking is increasing.

Over 1.8 million persons have been made homeless, with most of them receiving rationed meals at different Internally Displaced Persons camps.

The situation has resulted in cases of children, pregnant and nursing mothers severely malnourished.
