Central provinces from Quang Tri to Binh Thuan have suffered heavy rain, up to 462 millimetres for the past two days, the Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention said.

Storm Damrey is expected to make landfall on Sunday, one before the start of APEC ministerial level meetings in Da Nang.

Da Nang and the surrounding countryside are “at risk of receiving special heavy rain, leading to the danger of floods, flash floods, landslides in the mountains and widespread floods in the low-lying and urban areas in the storm’s wake,” the centre warned.

Rains will continue until November 8, causing high floods, flash floods, and landslides in mountainous areas and in the low-lying areas of the region, the committee warned.

U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to arrive on November 10 for the leaders’ summit.

Other leaders from the Pacific region, such as Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin are also expected to attend the summit.
