Mesut Ozil will now adorn the number 10 jersey for Arsenal, starting from the coming 2018/19 season.

The Germany international has worn the No 11 shirt since joining the Gunners in 2013 but will switch for the upcoming campaign.

Mesut said: “It has never been a secret how special this number is to me. My childhood idol Zinedine Zidane wore this number and it is still the most characteristic one for the playmaker position.

“I'm looking forward to putting it on for the first time at Arsenal after the summer break!”

Supporters who have purchased an ‘Ozil 11’ printed 2018/19 season shirt from Arsenal Direct will be contacted and sent a replacement ‘Ozil 10’ shirt of the same size and type (home or away).

Supporters who have purchased a shirt from the official stores have also been advised to go back to the store with proof of purchase for a replacement shirt.

Some Arsenal fans in Nigeria have reacted by saying they hope he plays his play maker role better this new season.

Jack Wilshere wore the No 10 jersey but he has now been released by the club.
