Even as the memory of foremost sport administrator, Deji Tinubu, who slumped and died while playing football is still fresh, a similar incident has happened.

This time, the victim was a 500 level Applied Geophysics student of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Tunji Agboola.

The final year student stepped on the pitch at his lodge, which is off campus, close to FUTA South gate, on Saturday to exercise his body, only for things to go wrong.

Tunji was supposed to be rushed to the institution’s health center but the facility had been shut for months due to the strike by the Non-Academic Staff Unions.

He was taken to a private hospital but doctors on ground could do little due to lack of basic oxygen apparatus to resuscitate him.

He was then rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, but could not make the trip there, as he was confirmed ‘Brought in Dead’ (BID).

The remains of the late Tunji have been handed over to his elder brother who came around, for onward movement to Ado Ekiti, their parents’ residence.
