While many thought they will be blown away by the reigning world champions, Australia gave a good account of themselves on Monday.

They were able to reply twice as they narrowly lost 2-3 to Germany at the ongoing FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.

The trio of Lars Stindl, Leon Goretzka and Julian Draxler who scored from the penalty spot were the scorers for Joachim Löw’s side while the duo of Tom Rogic and Tomi Juric scored for Australia.

Monday's game is the first of three in the Group for an experimental Die Mannschaft squad, who will also meet Chile and Cameroon over the course of this week.

Chile are top in the Group with a better goals difference having defeated Cameroon 2-0 on Sunday with late strikes in the 2nd half.
