Few minutes to the 12pm, August 20, 2018 deadline by FIFA to ban Nigeria from all football activities, the presidency has confirmed it sent a letter to the world football governing body of its support for Amaju Pinnick.

FIFA had posited that Nigeria will be banned if NFF president Pinnick is not allowed to return to his rightful duty.

With clock ticking and deadline approaching, the Nigerian government wrote to FIFA to drum its support for Pinnick and FIFA rules.

Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande revealed that the federal government has already wrote to FIFA.

“The FG has already conveyed to FIFA its firm position recognizing Amaju Pinnick-led NFF as the current & only NFF Exco. Govt will also continue to work with all relevant stakeholders involved to resolve dispute in a timely manner. FG is upholding NFF treaty obligations to FIFA.”

The Nigeria Football Federation leadership has been engrossed with crisis between Chris Giwa and Pinnick, both of whom are claiming to be the president of the body.

With the government’s latest role in the issue, FIFA is expected to write Nigeria to confirm the ban or withdraw the deadline.
