Father Of 5 Children Commits Suicide In Ekiti
A father of 5 children has hanged himself in the Omobayi area of Itapaji in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, throwing the community into confusion.
Daniel Sakpe, simply identified as ”Baba Richard” is a settler in the community where he lived with his wife and children.
Baba Richard, a Basa man from Kogi State was said to have told his wife he was going to defecate in a nearby bush.
After being away for long time, his wife got worried and decided to search for him.
She then called out severally but didn’t get an answer. That led her to raise the alarm and woke up one of her children, identified as Rebecca Sakpe, who went looking for her father.
Deborah, it was further gathered, found her father’s body hanging on a rope inside the house after flashing her touch light on the ceiling of the building.
As at the time of filing this report, the entire community is in deep mourning of the deceased whom many referred to as easy going and a family man.
Neighbours, who expressed shock at the tragic development, said the deceased was not moody; he did not give any indication that he would commit suicide either.
“He was part of those who conducted the church services in high spirit on Sunday,” they said.
Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Caleb Nwachukwu, said he is yet to be briefed about the development but promised to get back to the reporter once he confirmed the story.
Meanwhile, a police source told our reporter that officials from the Ikole police station had recovered his body and begun investigation into the development.
