If you think you have witnessed the mother of all crime, then you need to come to Akoko area of Ondo state to see it's grandmother.

Presently, a 13-day-old baby is missing, and the entire community and security agents have launched a search party into the incident.

The baby who was asleep behind her mother at her residence in Ajowa Akoko area of the state, disappeared over night without a trace.

Many questions have continued to trail the disappearance of the days old girl who can neither walk nor crawl.

Some residents who are close to the mother have asked the search party and policemen to beam their searchlight in the direction of the baby's father.

From all indications, they seem to have gotten their facts straight and if going by their claims, there could be a lead to the recovery of the baby, dead or alive.

One of the residents who pleaded anonymity said the father has never been in good terms with the mother since the baby was born.

"They were neither married nor stayed together as couple. The only connection between them was the baby and each time the man comes around, you will surely hear their argument.

"All through her pregnancy, he didn't know how she managed to survive and even when she gave birth to the baby, he didn't show up to assume his responsibility. He only came twice since the arrival of the baby and each time he is around, he would come to fight her not minding she is a fragile mother" he said.

Another neighbor also stated that if the man is arrested and grilled, he would confess.

"He had said it twice that he was not the father of the baby and he doesn't need it. If he could beat the woman while heavily pregnant, how much more can he not do? He is the prime suspect and he should be picked by the police for questioning."

It was confirmed that the father was nowhere to be found since the disappearance of the baby on Saturday despite his regular presence around the vicinity.

An aged woman who allegedly tried to raise alarm while the baby was being taken away was brutally macheted by the suspected abductors which further threw the community into confusion.

It was however believed that the kidnapping was orchestrated by the father for ritual purpose.

Speaking on the incident, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the area, Adetaranmi Ibitayo said investigation has commenced on the circumstances surrounding the baby’s abduction.
