As people become more vigilant and suspicious of every move towards pant theft, there seems to be a new approach to the trend.

Those involved in the act appear to have deviated from the conventional method by putting up momentous insanity so as to hit the target.

And those who are unlucky with the move are usually left with an awful story to tell.

A middle-aged man, Kayode Michael who allegedly pretended to be insane had on Monday, February 4th, escaped being lynched by mobs after he was caught with ladies’ pants and sanitary pads in Akure.

He was narrowly rescued by some good Samaritans who enjoined the youths to follow the right path to justice in dealing with the matter.

But in a contrary view, his family maintained that the said Kayode has been suffering from mental instability for several years.

A family member who pleaded anonymity said that had always been a way of displaying his madness.

"What he did was not unusual. For those who knew him very well would know picking refuse in the neighborhood is his kind of madness. We have tried everything to cure him but to no avail.

"Whatever they found in him is inconsequential. It is a normal thing to find such things with madmen."

According to one of the residents in the Danjuma area of Akure where the incident took place, the suspect could not respond when he was asked the reason for picking female undies in the area.

"When I noticed what he was doing, I raised an alarm and people gathered on him. They asked him what he was doing and why he was doing it, but he could not give a convincing answer which made people think he wanted to use it for ritual and started beating him" she narrated.

The suspect who was beaten mercilessly had been handed over to the men of Nigeria Society of Civil Defence Corp, Ondo state command.

Confirming the incident, the image maker of the command, Samuel Oladapo said, although his family claimed he is mentally unstable, investigation will be carried out to ascertain his psychological state.
