Mr and Mrs Peter Ejiofor must have had a memorable celebration of Christmas, even when Nigerians were crying of hardship which the fuel scarcity took to another level.

You see, they had been married for the past seven years without a child.

But on December 28, the couple were blessed with quadruplets, all boys.

It was a beautiful moment for the family, but behind that joy, also lay the Nigerian economy and its biting nature and the fact that Mr Ejiofor was a government worker, whose wage had not been increased in the past 5 years.

When the Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria, Mr Bayo Onanuga, visited the family at a hospital in Lagos, he could see the responsibility that had been placed on the shoulders of the couple who may not have prepared for such blessing a year ago.

Mr Onanuga, however, promised that he would assist in taking care of the quadruplets of a Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the agency.

“I am here to rejoice with Peter Ejiofor family whom God has blessed with four kids. I wish them well. He will not be left alone in taking care of them.

“This is because it entails lots of responsibilities in raising them. I will assist him, along with other staff members,’’ Onanuga said.

He said that the babies “are our own’’, adding that everybody would endeavour to bring them up to a certain level.

Mrs Anastasia Ejiofor, the mother of the quadruplets said she was overwhelmed by the managing director’s visit and thanked him for coming all the way from Abuja.

The quadruplets all boys, were delivered at 9.25 a.m. at Crystal Specialist Hospital, Akanwonjo, Lagos State on Dec 28.

Mr Ejiofor, is the Head of Sports Desk at the News Agency of Nigeria.
