Fake Prophet Bags 25 Months' Imprisonment
He claimed to be a Man of the People who hears the Voice of God.
32-year-old, Lukman Yaya was on Monday sentenced to 25 months’ behind bars.
The self-acclaimed prophet unlawfully obtained 17,500 naira from Aderibigbe Toyosi, with the intention to assist her to solve some of her spiritual problems.
But he failed to hold up his end of the deal and demanded more money to keep away the evil spirits on a more permanent basis.
The prosecutor, Chudu Gbesi also said the accused stole a mobile phone valued at 22,500 naira from the complainant in the process of helping her.
The offences, which contravene Sections 249(d) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006 were committed on February 8 at about 11.30AM at Joju Area of Ota.
Yaya, whose address was not disclosed in court, pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of impersonation and stealing.
The senior magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, in his ruling did not give the convict any option of fine.
