Virgil van Dijk did not waste time to show his worth and prove 75 million pounds dolled out by Liverpool to bring him to Anfield is no fluke.

On his debut for the Reds against Everton in the FA Cup 3rd round on Friday, van Dijk scored the winning goal in a 2-1 outcome.

Liverpool had taken the lead in the 35th minute when James Milner converted a penalty kick after Everton defender Mason Holgate had pulled down Adam Lallana in the box.

After the break, Liverpool looked to have been frustrated after Gylfi Sigurdsson brought Everton level in the 67th minute with a brilliant counter-attack from Sam Allardyce’s side.

However, debutant Virgil van Dijk, who joined Liverpool last week from Southampton, rose inside the area to head home an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain corner kick.
