A loud explosion was heard across the Afghan capital city, Kabul on Wednesday.

Witnesses said the incident was caused by a car bomb that struck near a security compound in the west of Kabul.

Local news agency ToloNews said the explosion occurred on Darulaman Road, near the Afghan parliament building, ministries and the American University.

Abdul Ghafoor lives in western Kabul and he said: “We can hear gunfire. I think it is a coordinated attack.’’

An official who spoke on condition of anonymity also confirmed that there has been a gun battle between security forces and an unknown number of gunmen near a district police headquarters located close to a military training school.

There was no immediate information on possible victims as Afghan officials have not commented on the blast.

There has also been no claim of responsibility.
