Former FC Barcelona players Patrick Kluivert and Edgar Davids both made a surprise appearance at President Robert Mugabe’s political rally in Gwanda, Zimbabwe.

Mugabe’s ruling ZANU-PF party will also organize a veterans match later this year, which both players are expected to feature.

93-year-old Mugabe has ruled Zimbabwe since independence from Britain in 1980.

Mugabe is aiming to run for another term and will be contesting the presidential election next year.

Organizer of the veteran match, Spaniard Rayco Garcia, said the planned event will give hope to youths in the country.

"My job is to bring all the legends of Barcelona here, the likes of Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Juliano Belletti, Kluivert, Davids... and to play a team of legends from Zimbabwe," Garcia told local press.

"I think that is going to give hope to the youth while promoting talent in the country and bringing a piece of Europe to Zimbabwe."
