Nigeria’s big boys in China are seeking fresh challenge elsewhere in the ongoing transfer window.

While John Obi Mikel has officially left Tianjin Teda, reports indicate that Southampton are interested in signing Changchun Yatai hitman Odion Ighalo this month.

Aside the Premier League strugglers, Turkish outfit Fenerbahce are also looking the direction of Ighalo whose 19 league goals could not save Changchun Yatai from going down on relegation in the Chinese Super League.

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhüttl will be desperate to bolster his attacking ranks at St Mary’s this season, especially with Manolo Gabbiadini facing an uncertain future on the south coast.

Southampton are by far from safe from relegation trouble.

They currently sit in 17th spot in the Premier League table

Ighalo is not a novice as far as playing in the Premier League is concerned, having scored 40 goals in 100 appearances for the Hornets, and he would be a great addition to the blunt Saints attack line up.

Whether Southampton can beat Fenerbahce in the race for his signature, however, remains to be seen.
