Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw were the goal scorers for Manchester United on Friday night as the Red Devils began their campaign in the Premier League this season on a winning note

The Nigerian duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi were in action from start to finish but they could not help their team escape an opening day defeat as Manchester United secured a 2-1 win over Leicester City.

Pogba set the ball rolling with his emphatic penalty just two minutes into the game, following a Daniel Amartey handball, before Luke Shaw doubled the advantage late on.

Shaw’s strike was his first career competitive goal, catching out Ricardo Pereira before turning the ball into the far corner.

David De Gea produced a stunning save to deny James Maddison in the first half, but United were generally comfortable throughout the game – albeit not the most entertaining.

Jamie Vardy squeezed the ball home for a consolation in stoppage time, but it proved to be too late.

The other Week 1 games of the EPL will take place on Saturday and Sunday with a couple of Nigerian players expected in action.
