New signing Alexis Sanchez made his first English Premier League start but could not find the back of the net as his Manchester United side were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham on Wednesday.

It will be manager Jose Mourinho’s fourth loss of the season.

A well-organised Spurs side went straight into the game, with Christian Eriksen giving the hosts the lead after just 11 seconds, the second fastest goal in Premier League history.

Manchester United’s woeful defending was exposed again for Tottenham’s second, with Phil Jones turning the ball into his own net after 27 minutes.

The win lifted Tottenham two points behind third-placed Liverpool and Chelsea in fourth as second-placed Manchester United dropped 15 points behind leaders Manchester City.

The league leaders trashed West Brom 3-0 at the Ethihad.
