Substitute Xherdan Shaqiri was the hero on the night as his two goals helped Liverpool beat Manchester United 3-1 on Sunday.

The result means Liverpool retake the top spot of the English Premier League with one point more than Manchester City.

A defensive blunder gifted Liverpool a chance and Sadio Mane controlled the ball with his chest before slotting it past goalkeeper David de Gea in the 24th minute.

Less than 10 minutes later, United clapped back when Romelu Lukaku’s cross was mess up by Alisson Becker, on to the legs of on-rushing Jesse Lingard.

With 20 minutes left on the clock, Jurgen Klopp pulled off Naby Keita for Shaqiri, who turned the man in the middle.

Three minutes after coming on the pitch, Shaqiri put Liverpool in the lead when his shot, deflected by Eric Bailly, went into the net.

Almost the same scenario played out in his second goal, as de Gea could not stop Shaqiri’s deflected shot in the 80th minute.

Liverpool remains the only team in the EPL that has not tasted defeat this season.
