Mohamed Salah scored a 50th minute penalty to see Liverpool beat Brighton 1-0 and extend their lead on the top of the English Premier League table to seven, with second place Manchester City having played one game less.

Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun was left on the bench for all duration of the encounter as his Brighton side battled to contain their visiting opponent.

After a barren first half, Salah was felled inside the danger area by Pascal Gross, and the Egyptian converted the resultant spot kick, which happened to be the only goal of the game and his 17th this season.
