Dele Alli’s first half header was enough to see Tottenham through to a 2-1 victory over Newcastle in their first 2018/19 English Premier League game.

The game produced three quick goals with Tottenham taking the lead as early as the 8th minute when Jan Vertonghen bundled the ball over the line with his head at the far post.

Three minutes later, Newcastle drew level, when Joselu used his head to convert Matt Ritchie's wicked ball.

In the 18th minute, Serge Aurier's fine delivery met a well-placed Alli who nicely headed in at the far post.

The second half did not produce any goal as Tottenham sealed all three points at St James' Park.
