The number of Nigerian players in the English Premier League is set to increase by the end of the January Transfer Window.

It is understood that Cardiff City are tracking Nigerian defender, Efe Ambrose and are willing to bring him over from his Scottish club, Hibernian.

According to the Scottish Sun, Ambrose has rejected new terms to extend his stay beyond the expiry of his present contract in the summer and could now activate a release clause allowing him to leave for nothing from January 1.

The veteran Nigerian defender has been a mainstay in Neil Lennon’s back-line since he joined Hibs from Celtic initially on loan in January 2017 before signing a two-year deal.

Aside from Cardiff City who are said to be interested in strengthening their defence with the former Celtic centre-back; 30-year-old Ambrose has also been a target for Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.

Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City – three points clear of the English Premier League relegation zone – are said to have shown an interest in the stopper in recent months.

Ambrose was a key player for the Easter Roadside last season, making 45 appearances as Neil Lennon’s men finished fourth in the Scottish Premiership.
