Enugu Rangers Fly Out To Battle ‘Mediterranean Knights’
They have not been convincing in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season but they are aiming to win laurels on the continent.
Hmmmmm... Big Dreams indeed!
Enugu Rangers, reigning champions of the NPFL, have been struggling to score goals.
Led by head coach, Imama Amapakabo, the team will fly out on Thursday for their CAF Champions League 2nd round, 1st leg encounter against Zamalek FC of Egypt on Sunday.
Kickoff has been fixed for 9pm (8pm Nigerian time) and the ‘Mediterranean Knights’ are very comfortable with the schedule.
The Confederation of African Football has appointed South African official, Daniel Frazer Bennett to be in charge of the clash at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.
Enugu Rangers’ chairman, Christian Chukwu said on Wednesday that the ‘Flying Antelopes’ have the go-go spirit and the tenacity to dig their feet into the ground when the chips are down.
“We will go to Egypt with a game plan to get a favourable result ahead of the return leg in Enugu next weekend,” said the former Nigeria captain and coach.
Enugu Rangers eliminated Algerian debutants JS Saoura on the away goal rule in the earlier round.
They must be at their best to overcome the experienced Egyptian campaigners to reach the lucrative mini-league stage of Africa’s prime club competition.
