#EndSARS: Police Threaten Campaign Leader
The Nigerian Police is set to make life difficult for one of the leaders of the trending #EndSARS campaign.
The campaign, which has been amplified by top celebrities and politicians, has forced the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to call for immediate reforms.
Videos and pictures were posted on social media of inhuman treatment meted on Nigerians by officers of SARS.
The campaign did not go down well with the Police as they have since insisted the unit will not be scrapped.
But for one of the leaders of the campaign, Segun Awosanya, he will be investigated as the Police claim he has links with politicians who may have sponsored the move.
A recent picture of him and the Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara was discovered.

“When you see someone like that who regularly mingles with politicians now leading a campaign to scrap a critical department in the police, then you know his activities are not genuine,” said police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, in a telephone exchange with Premium Times Tuesday.
“Our investigation does not mean we’re trying to infringe on peoples’ rights, but the quarters where some of the claims are coming from and those leading them should be looked into.”
Moshood said the police is not accusing the Speaker of sponsoring Awosanya and other #EndSARS campaigners.
Meanwhile, Awosanya has said he will not be deterred by the antics of the police to divert the attention of the people.
“Our campaign is for SARS to be scrapped so that the killing, maiming, beating and robbing of the citizens can stop. We will remain resolute in that call no matter the antics deployed by the police.
“They’re bringing up issues of pictures which I didn’t take yesterday to divert attention from issues being raised by over 100,000 Nigerians. The excruciating facts are out there that demonstrate how vicious and uncivilised the conduct of SARS has been over the years.”
“Nigerians have a right to decide if they want to continue to tolerate the criminalities of SARS officers into the future,” he added.
