END BAYELSA KILLINGS: Police Believe This Strategy Will Work
There have been several killings in Bayelsa and mostly youths are the ones dying.
Recently, a young girl was killed by suspected cultists who tried to steal her mobile phone.
Miss Seiyefa Fred was a 100 level student of the Niger Delta University.
Residents of the affected area, who witnessed the incident, said that the deceased had resisted attempts by the gang as they tried to rob her.
The activities of cultists in the state have continued to increase and it has become a source of worry for both security agencies and community leaders.
To check the trend, the Police Command in Bayelsa said it had commenced engagements with community and youth leaders as well as vigilante groups.
The spokesman for the Police in the state, Asinim Butswat, was reacting to the killing of the 100 level female student.
Butswat identified cultism, armed robbery and rape as the most prevalent crimes in the state and assured the people of the command’s readiness to partner with residents to fight crime.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Information, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, has said that the government would ensure the prosecution of anyone involved in the killing, describing it as ”shocking, reprehensible and unacceptable".
“Government calls for the cooperation of all our citizens in the days ahead as deliberate efforts would be made to go after those who have declared war on our peace and security.
“Government commiserates with the family of the late Seiyefa and assures that the killers would not go unpunished,” Iworiso-Markson said.
