Electrician Steals Community's Transformer
Musefiu Lawal, 26, allegedly conspired with the others still on the run to steal a transformer which belonged to the Tokunbo Community.
He was hoping to make a fortune from the transformer which is said to be worth five million naira.
The suspect on Wednesday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, where the prosecutor, Insp. Ben Ekundayo, told the court how it all happened.
“Lawal and his accomplices, who came with a vehicle at midnight to cart away the transformer, were sighted by members of a vigilance group.
“The accused was nabbed while his accomplices zoomed away in the vehicle with the transformer,” he said.
The suspect now faces a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft to which he pleaded not guilty.
Conspiracy and theft respectively contravene Sections 411 and 287 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and are punishable with two years’ imprisonment and two years’ imprisonment, respectively.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.M. Olumide-Fusika, granted the accused N1 million bail with two sureties in like sum, ordering that one of the sureties must be a relative of the accused and the other a civil servant.
She adjourned the case until Jan. 21, 2019.
