Rumours fly fast in Nigeria with the social media and a mobile phone in hand.

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim Zakzaky is the focus this time and false alarm that could trigger crisis has been spread.

Bounce News got in touch with the counsel to the IMN, Mr Femi Falana, and he gave a little insight about the condition of the man that has been in detention since December 2015.

He was arrested after members of the movement clashed with military in Kaduna.

Held with his wife, the health of the old man had deteriorated, with little or no medical attention.

Several publications came out few days ago, highlighting how bad his health situation had become.

It is this situation that the rumour peddlers have taken advantage of to spread fake news.

But Mr Falana said the man is alive.

"He is not dead, but seriously sick and it is very critical.

"He has stroke. He lost an eye during the attack and the other eye may go.

"He and his wife are not getting proper treatment. The government does not have the facility to treat them.

"Doctors have recommended that they be taken abroad and they even offered to pay their way, but the government is not giving them that opportunity," he told Bounce News.

El-Zakzaky's critical state further highlights the need for the man to receive medical attention before the rumoured death comes true.
