The rumoured death of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Mr Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, is not true, the Department of State Services (DSS) has said.

Rumours spread on Friday that the man had died, with security issues highlighted in messages that bore the information.

If this is not true as the DSS claimed, could this be hate speech or false alarm? It is worrisome that again, the social media which the government plans to regulate bares this information.

In its report, Daily Post quoted the Counsel to the detained Shiite leader, Mr Femi Falana, as saying that the man is alive, but terribly ill.

An official of the DSS who preferred to remain anonymous had told reporters in Abuja that  that El-Zakzaky was hale and hearty.

El-zakzakky was arrested in 2015 after his members had a confrontation with the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai in Zaria, Kaduna State.

He has been in detention since then.
