10 prisoners in Kaduna were fortunate to be told ‘go and sin no more’ while serving their jail term.

The prisoners’ immediate release was approved by Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.

El-Rufai said the gesture was to extend compassion to deserving prisoners during New Year following the recommendations of the Kaduna State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy and in line with the provisions of Section 212 of the Constitution.

He also granted pardon to Captain Idris Mohammed, a retired soldier and ex-convict, who completed his prison term in 1985.

The pardon granted Capt. Mohammed was to remove the stigma of being an ex-convict.

The 10 prisoners who were serving jail terms ranging from three to six years, with less than six months left to complete their terms are Habibu Iliyasu, Ibrahim Mohammed, Ibrahim Auwalu, Abubakar Abdullahi and Shehu Usman.

Others were, Ibrahim Stephen, Saidu Idris, Ashimu Danmutuwa, Kabiru Mohammed and Aliyu Yusuf.
