Eid-El-Kabir: Police Uncover Plans To Attack Kwara
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Aminu Pai Saleh has said that intelligence report at his disposal revealed plans by some politicians and their political thugs to launch major onslaught aimed at disrupting the Eid-El-Kabir and Durban festivals in the state.
He however assured that the police would deal with anyone that tries to disrupt the joyful moment.
The Kwara State Police Command and other security agencies in the state called on guardians, political leaders and social cultural units within the state to prevail on their wards, party supporters and members to come out peacefully to partake in the celebration
Saleh, who spoke with news men in Ilorin the Kwara State capital, said all security agencies in the state are fully prepared for the two-day event which is slated for 21st to 22nd August, 2018 adding that the plot was coordinated by top politicians of the major political parties in the state
He said checks also indicated that in preparation for the offensive, they have concluded to hire mercenaries from within and outside the state to meet at designated points as officers sworn to protect lives and properties of the citizens
"We cannot allow the existing harmony to get ruptured by the proposed strife by disgruntle politicians the police cannot shy away from its constitutional duty to provide safety and security to all deserving citizens that conduct themselves within the limit of the law" he said
He said hate speech should be avoided, as well as words that are intended to insult, abuse,humiliate, offend, make unhappy a person or group of people because of the person's political variance, religious belief and ethical differences.
He said "let me sound it loud and clear, we will not hesitate to sanction anybody, no matter how highly placed, that is out to disrupt the forthcoming occasion through acts of Commission or Omission before, during or after the occasion, accordingly, members of the public are enjoined to look out for potentials trouble makers that could Still be bent at destroying our collective comfort during this period, you should be security conscious to make Kwara safer and more secured for economic development," he said.
The police boss said he has deployed 2500 police men to the Eid praying grounds to maintain law and order.
Some of the politicians who signed the peace pact at the meeting, promised to caution their supporters to abide by the rules and regulation of the security agents.
