EFCC Reveals Fayose's Alleged 'Biggest Crime', Detains Him
The common ‘prison to palace’ is a sweet story to tell, but in the case of former Ekiti governor, Ayo Fayose, the story is not sweet right now.
It is more like palace to prison for him after spending his first day out of office in the detention cell of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
Forget about all that black ‘EFCC I’m Here’ T-shit stunt he pulled and his star-studded entourage on arrival at the agency’s office on Tuesday.
He was swiftly taken into custody and his friends did not go inside with him as he faces grilling over his receipt of the sum of N1.3billion and $5.377million from the Office of the former National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The EFCC maintains that the money totaling N4.6 billion was part of the funds stolen from defence vote.
A Vanguard source within the EFCC said: “Fayose has a lot of issues to clear with us and we hope he can clear them on time. He is to write a voluntary statement on all that he knows about the N4.7 billion that he allegedly received from the former Minister of State for Defence.
“Interrogators also confronted him on the choice property he allegedly used fronts to acquire in Lagos, Abuja and other places and the allegation that he collected kickbacks from some contractors.
“There are so many issues for which Fayose must provide answers to our interrogators. These things take time and he should know that it is beyond fanfare but being honest and providing answers to the issues.”
Meanwhile, according to a The Nation source, Fayose denied all the allegations against him and asked the agency to take him to court.
“He made a statement where he denied all the allegations and asked the commission to take him to court.
“So far, he has not responded to how he came about N1.3billion and $5.377million from ONSA. He has more issues to clarify; we are going to detain him.”
