Edo Pensioners Relocate To Churches, Fast For Arrears
Pensioners in Edo state are no longer keeping quiet about the non payment of their arrears by the state government.
The pensioners on Thursday in Benin marched to the Government House to express their grievances.
They lamented that they are being owed 42 months arrears.
Spokesman for the pensioners, Gabriel Osemwenkhai revealed that some of the pensioners now sleep in churches.
Osemwenkhai added that the pensioners need their entitlement to pay their children’s school fees.
He alleged that some of the local government pensioners have not been enrolled into the state pension scheme, while others died as a result of hardship.
Governor Godwin Obaseki, who addressed the protesting pensioners through his deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu, promised to resolve the issue.
