Ebonyi Lawmaker Suspended For 'Taking Too Many Pictures'
Ebonyi State House of Assembly has suspended the member representing Afikpo North East constituency in the Assembly, Maria Ude Nwachi.
Nwachi, also known as 'Afikpo Chic' was suspended on Tuesday for gross misconduct.
Nwachi, a former Minority Leader in the House, was accused of allegedly posing as a public photographer.
Her conduct was said to be unbecoming as a lawmaker and has discredited her in different fora in the state especially during public functions.
The House said Nwachi has refused to heed earlier warnings by the Assembly to desist from being a photographer in the state.
The suspension followed a motion moved by the Leader of the House, Joseph Nwobasi.
She was suspended for 14 days pending the outcome of investigations on the allegations leveled against her by a special committee constituted by the House.
Nwachi who was elected on the platform of Progressives Peoples Alliance(PPA) defected to PDP last year and was present at the Assembly plenary when she was suspended.
Many of us remember her for setting social media on fire in 2017 when she posted videos of herself dancing to a music she refers to as "Talk and Do.
This is the second time the lawmaker is being suspended in the state’s 5th Assembly.
In 2016 she was suspended for sponsoring a protest by Afikpo youths against the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) for epileptic services to the town.
The peaceful protest later turned violent as some of the youths set ablaze some vehicles of the Disco and this prompted the House to suspend her for over two months.
