It is surprising how some people take laws into their hands and carry out criminal acts.

Ama-Uwa allegedly mobilized youths, who used stones, sticks and other harmful objects to attack policemen who were on surveillance at Amasoso-Nta Edda Community in Afikpo South Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.

While the policemen did all they could to protect themselves and their arms from being snatched by the irate youths, the attackers, numbering over 20, set the police vehicle ablaze.

Bounce News gathered that four policemen had gone on investigation to Amasoso-Nta Edda before they were ambushed, causing the officers to sustain severe injury.

Amasoso-Nta Edda community has been a security flash point. This caused the Commissioner of Police, Titus Lamodre to deploy men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS to the area.

But while the policemen were on patrol from Amasiri to Amasoso-Nta Edda, a suspected illicit drug dealer, whose name was given as Ama-Uwa, allegedly mobilized the youths to attack the police, claiming they were kidnappers.

The policemen were said to be acting under cover, that was why they did not go with their official car to enable them arrest miscreants from the community.

But unknown to the policemen, the suspected drug dealer spotted them and set his boys against the officers.

Some of the suspects arrested by the police are, Mba Onuwa (30) Daniel Amah (24), Nnanna Ochinawata (28), Okorie Orji, Mba, 22 years, Orji Kali, 20 and Alum Ogbonnaya, aged 22.

Others are Eme Ulu Anya and Eze Ukpai, both aged 40.

A community source said “since the drug dealer observed that the policemen now visit Amasoso-Nta Edda frequently, he has never been at rest because he was suspecting that the police would arrest him for the illegal business.”

Ebonyi State Police Command Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, Loveth Odah, who confirmed the attack and burning down of police vehicle, said nine persons had been arrested in connection with the attack.
