When Mohammed Ismail joined a rally of one of the chairmanship aspirants in Ajaokuta Local Government Area, Abdulrahaman Dansabe, at the Local Government Secondary School, he did not know he was in his last moment on earth.

He left his wife and kid to witness and possibly support in his little way, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.

The politician, Dansabe, started giving his speech around 2:00 p.m. local time, trying to convince people to vote for him, while Ismail was one of the listeners.

"Some people said the policeman acted under the influence of alcohol.

"Our efforts to save the man proved abortive, as he died shortly after he was rushed to a nearby hospital," an eyewitness told Punch.

The victim, who was said to be a HND graduate of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, was later buried around 7.30 p.m. on Sunday, while Kogi State Police spokesman, ASP William Aya, is trying to investigate the incident, as the drunken officer is yet to be identified.
