Doctors Protest Against Kidnap Of Colleague
One of their colleagues was abducted. With the kidnapers demanding outrageous ransom for his release.
These doctors have staged a protest to the state government to ensure the safe return of the victim.
Some members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in Abia want the immediate release of Dr. Innocent Iwuegbu who was abducted on Monday on his way to the Federal Medical Centre.
Speaking on behalf of the protesting doctors at the entrance of the Abia state government house, Dr Ukpabi Ogba demanded the immediate and unconditional release of their colleague.
"We have gathered as an association to demand for the release of our colleague, It is obvious that Abia is no longer safe for us. The demands of the abductors are outrageous, and we can't afford it."
Dr. Ogba explained that the communication from the abductors through the doctor's wife had it that he was being tortured, and are demanding a ransom that is way out of reach, decrying that their lives are in danger too.
Responding, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the governor, Ukpai Agwu Ukpai who represented the governor, frowned at the criminal act and assured that government will swing into action immediately.
