Residents of a Titin Jajira, Tudun Bojuwa, in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State are in fear over a disease that is sweeping through residents.

So far, eight persons have been killed by the disease that has not been identified, but has symptoms similar to those Lassa fever manifests.

Most of the persons killed within one week it was first noticed are children.

Residents of the area confirmed to Bounce News on Tuesday that "the disease starts with severe fever, diarrhoea and vomiting and it kills patients within less than two hours".

When asked if the patients were taken to hospital for medical attention, a parent, who also lost his children to the disease, said they did not have access to health facilities.

Reports said all the dead children were from one family.

The government said it is making efforts to identify the disease.

A spokesman of the state ministry for health, Mr Isma'il Garba Gwammaja, said the ministry had dispatched its team to the area for investigation to identity the disease and prevent further outbreak.

The outbreak of this disease is coming two weeks after the state government said it was also investigating a strange killer disease in Dawakin Tofa Local Government area of the state.

While residents await the intervention of the government, there are signs it could be Lassa fever which has claimed several lives in different states in Nigeria of recent.
