The Senator representing Kogi West at the Senate, Dino Melaye, has arrived home after many days in Police detention.

Melaye regained freedom on Monday evening after meeting his bail conditions,

Justice Yusuf Halilu  of the FCT High court in Maitama, Abuja had on Friday granted the senator bail on health grounds.

The bails conditions included presenting three sureties who reside and have property in Abuja.

Melaye has been in custody since he surrendered to the police on January 4 after an eight-day siege was laid to his Abuja residence.

The police alleged that supporters of Melaye shot one Danjuma Saliu, a police officer in Kogi state, in July 2018.

They said Saliu has been in hospital since that time and was not responding well to treatment.

After fulfilling his bail conditions, Melaye filed a suit against the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), seeking to bar the police  from re-arresting him.

In a post on his Facebook page after his release, Melaye said: "Great heroes need great sorrows and burdens, or half their greatness goes unnoticed.

"Every suffering they put me through strengthens my stature and expands my coverage and influence beyond the reach of my tormentors.

"Dino Melaye can not be broken and I advise they stop trying. I will continue to stand with the truth no matter what."
