Devil Made Me Burn My Granddaughter’s Hand – Osun Woman
The devil must be feeling really cheated by Nigerians for all the times they blame him for their crimes and evil deeds.
A grandmother, who allegedly burnt the hands of her nine-year-old granddaughter, Kehinde John, for stealing is also blaming the devil.
Little Kehinde’s crime was that she stole 6,000 Naira, a claim being disputed by the girl.
She claimed it was only N500 naira that herself and her twin brother took, and they bought exercise book, bread and pencil with the money.
But when speaking to newsmen, the grandmother who identified herself as Victoria John, said the little girl and her twin brother Taiwo are her grandchildren delivered by her daughter who died at childbirth.
She claimed she had been taking good care of the twins after they were retrieved from our Lady of Fatima motherless home, Jaleyemi, Osogbo where they were left after the death of their mother.
"Their mother was my daughter, she got pregnant and the man ran away but I took care of her and when she had complications at childbirth she died.
“I have been taking good care of these children and what happened is only a mistake.
“I was only trying to correct the children. They usually steal, and I have been warning them to stop stealing.
"This money that was stolen is 6,000 naira and it is the church money that was put in my care. I only put her hand in the fire because I was angry that the twins lied that they did not steal the money.
“Please forgive me, it is the devil that pushed me to do it," she said kneeling down.
Bounce News gathered that the grandmother was arrested when the teachers of Kehinde John who is in primary three in one of the public schools in Osun state discovered that she could not write in class.
The teacher who prefers to be anonymous, after interrogating Kehinde, later took her to a nearby clinic for treatment.
That was when the Civil Defence Corps was called upon and they arrested the grandmother. They say the matter will be transferred to NAPTIP for further investigation.
While they busy investigating, Bounce News reckons it is more important to pay attention to the medical needs of the girl.
