Riyad Mahrez is feeling depressed after failing to complete a transfer from Leicester City to Manchester City, and has now missed training for the second successive day.

In a desperate bid to leave the Foxes, the 26-year-old handed in a transfer request, but that did not change anything.

It was understood that Manchester City made a player-plus-cash offer to Leicester that is worth £65m but their offer was turned down as the Foxes are valuing the Algeria international closer to £95m.

Leicester boss Claude Puel left out Mahrez in their 2-1 loss to Everton on Deadline Day, and there are reports the player has been left out for Saturday’s clash against Swansea.

On Wednesday, one of Mahrez's friends told Sky Sports News: "This is the fourth transfer window in which Leicester have said they will allow him to leave. He feels very strongly that he has done everything in his powers for the club.

"Joining Manchester City would have been a dream for him. Playing for Pep Guardiola is something he is still desperate to do.

"That seems a long way off right now. He's very down about how he's been treated by a club he has served so well."
