Demoralised Ondo Students Shun Lectures Over Classmate's Death
Students of Adeyemi College of Education in Ondo are still grappling with the tragic death of their colleague, Feyisitan Akinmolayan, a 300 level student in the Mathematics Department.
Feyi was said to have slumped after complaining of stomach upset and was immediately rushed to the health centre of the institution where he died.
His death appeared to have psychologically demoralised some of his friends and colleagues as they boycott academic activities.
One of the deceased's friends, Olusanyan Fasakin said it will take a long while for him to get over the shock.
"How do I handle the shock. We were together in our fellowship that same day. I needed to go to somewhere in town after the fellowship and we promised to see each other later in the day. The next I heard was that he is dead in the health centre. How can he die when he was not even sick?
"Feyi was my confidant and we did virtually everything together. So I don't know how to handle the psychological effect of his death. Going for lecture is the least on my mind for now because if I do, I cannot concentrate." He said.
Folasade Smart has also been struggling to bring herself to terms with reality.
"He was not only my course mate, he was also my reading mate. Each time I had issue with any of my courses, he was always my saving grace. He was damn good. The news of his death has really devastated me I must confess."
According to the president of the Students Union Government, comrade Abidemi Subir, the late Feyisitan had been representing the institution in the last three years at the mathematics competition within and outside the state.
His remains had been deposited at the state specialist hospital while efforts were ongoing by the school management to contact his family.
The deceased, 26 was said to have been an active member of Catholic Students Fellowship on the campus.
