Some landlords in Akure are currently on the verge of losing it all.

Their imminent change of status is not unconnected to the ongoing dualization of roads by the state government in which many houses were cleared off to give room for extension.

The state government, according to the affected landlords, had already promised to pay their compensation before the exercise kicks off but only for them to be deceived.

"Many of us have no source of livelihood. Where does (Rotimi) Akeredolu want us to start from? Several of us have been scouting since the notice was served, hoping to get compensated and re-establish ourselves.

"Rather than fulfilling the promise, all we see is bulldozer that brings down all we suffered for in our eyes." said Mr. Isaac Adepitan.

Also lamenting the development was a retired civil servant in the ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Temidayo Adedunwo.

"I have never witnessed any administration that frustrate it's people like this Aketi's government. It is a government full of lie and hypocrisy.

"How can you promise to pay us compensation before starting the demolition without fulfilling it?

"I built my house in 1984 and many houses that were demolished here today have a similar life span but today, we've been rendered homeless courtesy of our good and hardworking governor." He said sarcastically.

Responding to the allegation, the state commissioner for works and infrastructure, Abdusalam Taofeek, posited that the payment of compensation is in process and batches.

"We have invited them to tender the necessary documents to get their compensation. All the government is trying to do is to ensure everybody gets his or her due.

"If we don't follow the due process, I bet you, many of them will be impersonated. It may take time but they will all get their compensations." He assured.

Ijoka/hospital road in Akure was earmarked for dualization earlier this year and many houses were marked for demolition.

Not less than 15 billion naira was budgeted by the Akeredolu-led administration to spend on roads across the state.
