Death In Nollywood: Between Moji Olaiya And Aisha Abimbola
Aisha Abimbola is dead.
Even though she died exactly one year and two days after, Moji Olaiya, who was also a Nollywood star from the Yoruba genre, the similarities surrounding their deaths cannot be missed.
Both died in the month of May, with 1 year and two days separating their months of death - Aisha Anbibola died on May 15 2018, while Moji Olaiya, who passed away on May 17, 2018.
Both actresses died in Canada of illnesses related to their female anatomy - while Moji Olaiya died from a heart attack which resulted from complications of child birth, Aisha died from breast cancer.
Dying in Canada came along with the complications and confusions, normally associated with being celebrities.
Before Moji Olaiya's body was safely returned to Nigeria, there was the issue of who would finance its return.
Even in her death, the intrigues associated with Nollywood played out before her body arrived Nigeria on June 6.
It started out as a rumour that the Ekiti state government (Moji's state of origin) had pledged to help finance the $15,000 needed to return Moji Olaiya's body back to Nigeria.
But the Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose dismissed reports that he rescinded on his promise to fund and said he never made such a promise.
This statement threw a spanner into the well oiled wheels of her funeral preparations, until Jagaban came to the rescue.
Her body was repatriated to Nigeria on June 6, after former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu paid for it, and Moji was laid to rest on June 7.
In the case of Aisha Abimbola, some people saw her death as a money spinner.
Without the fear of God or the dead, some scammers sprung to action and went about seeking for funds, claiming that they wanted to return her body to Nigeria, but veteran Yoruba actress, Lola Alao busted their bubble by issuing a scam alert.
According to Lola Alao in a video, Aisha is a Canadian citizen and the government is taking care of the funeral so no one is seeking funds.
Moji Olaiya and Aisha Abimbola lived as stars and even in death they still have the spotlight.
As we mourn Aisha Abimbola who would be laid to rest today (May 17) in far away Canada, we remember Moji Olaiya, who died today (May17).
May their souls rest in peace.
