Dalung Avoids 'Illegal' NFF Elections
Whether standing alone or standing tall, Solomon Dalung, the Youth and Sports Minister has labeled Thursday’s NFF elections in Katsina as illegal.
Dalung reiterated that the polls are not in line with the rule of law following the Supreme Court judgment of April 27, 2018, which restored all orders granted Chris Giwa by the High Court.
The Federal High Court sitting in Jos in furtherance of this enforced this judgment and has yet to set it aside.
Dalung in an official letter to the NFF general secretary dated September 19 therefore warned against conducting the elections.
The minister has declared the NFF executive committee led by Amaju Pinnick are illegal as they are not known to law and as such anything they do is illegal and a nullity.
Dalung’s hardline stance is in contradiction with the Federal Government’s position following a letter written by the then Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to FIFA; stating that Nigeria fully recognises the Amaju Pinnick led board.
It was that assertion by the FG that saved Nigeria from the dreaded FIFA ban.
