Cultists Kill Ex-PDP Leader, Two Others
Mr. Nwabueze Nwokwu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) former legislative leader has been killed at Eke Market.
The incident occurred during a rival cult clash in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Two others were also killed in the clash, while another person who was matched is receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
A resident of the area, Njoku Theophilus, told Bounce News that the clash began at the Market square.
He disclosed that it was later extended to Agubia, a neighboring community in Ikwo local government area, where sporadic shooting was recorded.
Theophilus said the deceased and other suspected members of the group were relaxing and drinking in a joint when they were attacked.
“The groups have been after one another for some time now before last week's clash that started at the market, where the deceased was said to be relaxing.
“He was relaxing and drinking at one of the joints in the park at about 4:30pm when the rival cult group swooped on them and started shooting sporadically.
“Unfortunately, the bullet hit and killed three of them, and others while trying to escape received various degrees of gunshots.
“The attack lasted for some minutes as the attackers immediately took to their heels after the operation.
“The clash leading to the death of three cultists started in Ikwo local government area of the state weeks ago, when a cult member was shot by rival group.
“Surprisingly, the bullets did not penetrate him, and the suspected cult members used cutlass and inflicted injuries on him, and he later died in the hospital in Abakaliki,” he stated.
Police Public Relations Officer, Loveth Odah confirmed the incident. She said people should go about their normal business, as the police would not tolerate any break down of law and order.
