Luka Modric and Harry Kane will be leading the line as Croatia and England go in for battle; seeking a coveted spot in the final of the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Since Croatia dispatched the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their opening match barely three weeks ago, they have not looked back; winning all their subsequent games and increasingly looking like potential candidates to win football’s most coveted trophy.

The Three Lions are also in a decent shape with Gareth Southgate and his team breaking barriers and getting England into her first World Cup semi final since 1990.

Indeed, the die is cast and an energetic display is expected to see who gets the right to join France in Sunday’s final in Moscow.

Last Meeting

England thumped Croatia 5-1 at Wembley the last time the two nations met, in a World Cup qualifier in September 2009, but Ivan Rakitic and Mario Mandzukic are the only survivors from that match on either side.

It will be unrealistic to expect such wide margin victory in Wednesday’s semifinal contest as the two teams that would be on parade are evenly matched even though they have varying strengths and weaknesses.

Croatia has needed extra time and penalties in each of their two knockout stage wins and will be eager to conserve energy by claiming victory over England in 90 minutes.

Croatia Vs England

On their part, the new generation of Three Lions have emerged as legitimate contenders to claim their first World Cup title since 1966 with solid play on both sides of the ball.

Will football be coming home indeed as already professed by English fans, the outcome at the Luzhniki Stadium Wednesday night will give a clearer view.

Croatia possible starting lineup:

Subasic; Vida, Lovren, Corluka, Strinic; Rakitic, Brozovic, Rebic, Modric, Perisic; Mandzukic

England possible starting lineup:

Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire; Henderson; Trippier, Lingard, Alli, Young; Sterling, Kane

Croatia 1-2 England
