Court Stops Dino Melaye's Recall From Senate
A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, halted the recall of Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West from the Senate.
The senator made this known in a tweet on his twitter handle.
"Thank You Jesus. Status quo should be maintained says Federal High Court Abuja on the fake recall case. Yahaya Bello is a loser." Dino wrote.
It would be recalled that INEC, had during the week, announced a timeline for the Senator's recall with August 19 fixed for verification of signatures of petitioners demanding his recall.
Dino had protested but INEC maintained its stand that only a valid court order can stop the recall as demanded by his Kogi West constituents.
Melaye, had on June 23, filed the suit seeking a court injunction to halt his recall from the Senate.
In an Originating Summons he filed through his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, the embattled lawmaker prayed the court to declare that the petition presented to INEC for his recall was illegal, unlawful, wrongful, unconstitutional, invalid, null and void and of no effect in law.
He also prayed the court for an order of injunction restraining INEC from commencing or further continuing or completing the process of his recall, adding that the petition was signed by fictitious, dead and none existing persons in his senatorial district.
In addition, Melaye wants the court to make an order stopping INEC from acting on the petition submitted to it.
