Court Remands Three Policemen For Murder
Three policemen may spend the rest of their lives in jail or even get a worse judgment, for taking the lives of three other people.
An Umuahia Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Chief Magistrate John Ukpai remanded Inspector Nwitoka Nwinee, Sergeants Emeto Godwin and Chigozie Onina in prison custody for unlawfully killing Joseph Oduluso, Odichi Sampson and Obinna Innocent at Ntigha Okpuala in Isiala Ngwa North local government area of Abia state.
When the charge was read, Chief magistrate Ukpai declined jurisdiction to hear it, and transferred the case file to the Attorney General of the state for necessary action.
Meanwhile, Human rights and Constitutional lawyer, Dr Anthony Agbazuere, who is also counsel to the complainants, said he had petitioned the Inspector General of Police over the gruesome murder of the deceased persons and the police boss directed the Abia state Commissioner to investigate the case.
"Three police men on the 5th of march went to Ntigha in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, used a government rifle that they were given and killed three young men, the village head ran to me as a Human Rights Lawyer. So I went to Inspector General of Police who swiftly directed the police commissioner in Abia to take action.
“The officers were consequently arrested. I want to thank the Inspector General of Police for not showing any bias even when the suspects are policemen. If things were to be done the right way, nobody would have problem."
