A young man, Chukwudi Ugwueke and his sister, Sophia Ugwueke have brought shame and pain to their family.

The two were sentenced to two years in prison each over alleged Internet fraud in Warri, Delta State.

Spokes person of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Wilson Uwujaren, said Chukwudi a.k.a James Scott was sentenced along with his sister, Sophia Ugwueke by Justice E. A .Obile of the Federal High Court, Warri, but were given an option of 400,000 Naira fine each.

EFCC operatives arrested the convicts at their residence in Sapele in January based on intelligence on their illegal activities including defrauding foreigners through Internet scams.

They were first arraigned on February 1 on a 13-count, but pleaded not guilty, according to the EFCC spokesman.

However, when the case came up for hearing on May 11, they pleaded guilty to an amended one-count charge of possession of fraudulent documents with intent to defraud an American identified as Lisa Marie Nors.

After reviewing the evidence tendered by the prosecution counsel, M. T. Iko, Justice Obile found the duo guilty and convicted them accordingly, Uwujaren said.
