Solomon John, a resident of Angwan Mission, Masaka, was dragged to court by his landlady, one Justina Adamu, for failure to pay one year and six months arrears of rent, which amounted to N60, 000.

John blamed his inability to pay his house rent on the current economic recession.

“My job is not the way it used to be; I find it difficult to do what I used to do before.

“As I speak, members of my family are in the village, when I discovered that things were not working, I asked them to go to the village,”John said.

But the magistrate said that the defendant did not look like someone who was passing through a recession as he claimed.

The landlady, had on May 18, filed a suit against the defendant and begged the court to help her evict the tenant from her house.

John failed to pay the arrears and also did not vacate the apartment.

The magistrate, Mr Victor Manga, said the tenant violated the orders of court by not paying the house rent arrears to his landlady.

Manga then ordered him to vacate his apartment and look for an alternative accommodation, since his landlady had no interest in the arrears he owed.
